Lets just run with Polonius here and shoot for brevity since it's the soul of wit... even though he was the longest winded person in Hamlet, he was right.  Perfect Projectiles are Smooth, Roundish, and Dense.  My three top favorite projectiles are small apples, eggs, and street-cricket balls (little red guys seen here).  The main issue is that projectiles are easily hung up.  If they are rough they get hung up leaving the pocket.  Upon exiting the far side of the pocket wraps around the projectile grabbing it and acclerating it to the left..Pocket grabs them and they veer left, if not round they draw too much air resistance, if their not dense they can't store much momentum and so don't travel far or fast.  I really like slinging old fruit because they blow up nice, the animals get a snack and they fit these three categories well.  From experience I use projectiles that I don't care to lose because, they will get lost.  Ok that's it, I promised a post on projectiles, there you go, happy slinging.
